2019 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 NH
It is no secret that pickup truck drivers appreciate the feeling of towering over cars on the highway, of having the capability to haul work equipment or furniture and to have a rugged automobile.
If you are in the market for a new truck and you are the type of person who loves to have something to look forward to, look no further than the 2019 Silverado 1500. Chevrolet has redesigned its Silverado, resulting in a larger truck with significantly more technology and features.
Available in eight models and with six powertrain options, Chevrolet has gone out of its way to develop a truck that appeals to a variety of drivers. Understandably, Chevrolet is keeping some of the specifics under wraps to build up suspense for this revamped truck. But they’ve also provided just enough details to get pickup truck drivers salivating. What will the warranties be like? And the safety features and technological aspects are sure to be mind-boggling as well.
Don’t be surprised if you start counting down the days until the 2019 models are available, as this truck is certainly one that deserves the celebration many drivers will have once they climb behind the wheel. Until then, enjoy daydreaming about your new Silverado, its features, presence and handling.
ALL NEW DESIGN – EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR UPDATES
In general the 2019 Silverado is both bigger and bolder. It is considered a revolutionary design because the new architecture of this already dynamic truck enabled dramatic proportion changes. A short overhang and longer wheelbase give this truck more room in the cab as well as in the bed.
Exterior
The front end has its own distinct look. Perhaps the most striking exterior change has been the narrow, tougher looking headlights. The 2019 model is wider, taller, 1.6-inches longer and with a larger wheelbase than its predecessor. A significant amount of steel was still utilized to build the Silverado.
However, the Silverado utilizes a mixed-materials strategy. This technique utilizes the steel body and frame of the truck but implements high-strength steel, aluminum, magnesium and other metals and composites to lighten the load. This has resulted in a reduction of 450 pounds, which will result in better fuel efficiency. The brand name is stamped into the tailgate just above the integrated dual exhaust system. This is also the first power lift-gate that can be moved up or down with the key fob, interior button or by hand.
Interior
Not only does this redesigned model allow for more storage space, it also integrated two storage bins into the design of the back of the rear seats. Not only will you be driving in the latest model with the newest design features, you will be organized to boot!
But the increase in interior space is just the beginning of the Silverado’s updates. In fact, this vehicle offers the most cargo volume in every bed length. The bed floor is nearly seven inches wider than its predecessor. The accessories bin will allow for storage bins that fit over the wheel wells and offer near seven cubic feet of lockable cargo space. However, the dynamic design of the bed is that despite the storage space, a standard 4 x 8 piece of plywood can still be accommodated.
Drivers may be most impressed by the bumper steps on the back of the truck. In the 2019 model, they are tall enough to accommodate a work boot. They are also long enough to allow for a more solid reach and balance when lifting or adjusting a heavy or awkward item. These steps incorporate the vehicle’s side blind-zone radar sensors. Chevrolet has removed these sensors from the taillights to make them substantially less expensive. Additionally, these feature enables a bigger window of design options.
Most passengers scramble to call dibs on a front seat ride. But that trend won’t continue for long with this newly updated model. The seats are ultra-comfortable. The extension in wheelbase has provided additional legroom in the back and the amount of cargo storage is as convenient as it is comfortable. What’s more is that younger Silverado passengers will certainly get a kick out of the “hidden’ storage compartments found in the back seats of both cab types.
PERFORMANCE UPGRADES
Engine options include a Duramax 3.0-liter inline six turbodiesel engine, which may be able to achieve up to 30 mpg on the highway. This model will also be offered with a 5.3-liter or a 6.2-liter V8 engine types. These engines include industry-first technology which disable up to seven cylinders when they are not needed which also results in improved fuel efficiency.
A 3.6-liter will likely be the base engine. A four-cylinder engine option is also planned for the Silverado. This trucks will be equipped with the new ten-speed automatic transmission that boasts start-stop technology, although it is not clear which trim types and packages will include that transmission type. The lower trim levels may be equipped with eight-speed transmissions.
The 2019 Silverado’s drag coefficient has been improved by seven percent from the older version. One way this reduction was possible was by the inclusion of a subtle but functional lip spoiler. This feature was named for a racing legend who identified this as a viable way to improve aerodynamics. The front air dam can be removed from the Silverado for off-roading activities. It is not a secret that one drawback of pickup trucks, especially large ones like the Silverado, can be cumbersome, especially when it comes to parking.
The truth is that increasing the wheelbase by four-inches should have also increased the turning circle radius of the truck which would only make it more challenging to park and maneuver in urban areas.
However, a full redesign of the front suspension allowed for the wheelbase and resulting increase in cabin size without having a negative impact on the turning radius. This was achieved by adjusting the control arm above the wheel area to allow for great steering angle and smaller turn circles on Silverados of any drivetrain type.
TRIM UPDATES FOR 2019 MODEL YEAR
Again, Chevrolet is withholding some of the fine details in order to build anticipation and excitement. They have, however, revealed that Silverado drivers will have the option of selecting one out of eight trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country.
Like must automobile models available today, the Silverado comes with a host of trim levels and package types to cater to a diverse demographic and economic range of pickup truck drivers. While the specific accessories and features associated with each trim level are not yet available.
However, the number of trim levels available mean that the 2019 Silverado 1500 accommodates the bare-bones truck driver, the one who likes to drive in top luxury with every creature comfort imaginable, and every driver in between. For example, the Trail Boos will cater to off-road performance as evidenced by its specially tuned suspension with additional ground clearance, all-terrain tires, Rancho shocks and skid plates.
Silverado drivers can drive assured that no matter their choice in trim level, drivetrain, engine or cab type, they will be driving away in a sleek, high-performing and rugged vehicle. Just be patient—you only have to wait a few more months until Chevrolet reveals its 2019 Silverado.
