With the Chevy Colorado, whether it’s work or play, you can rely on this pickup to deliver and always be stylish while doing it.
Trim Levels
There’s several trim levels for this year’s Colorado. We’re sure that between a bit of research combined with speaking with one of our sales professionals that you will be able to select a trim level that best works for you.
The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado is a midsize pickup offered in extended-cab and crew-cab body styles. There are two bed lengths and five trim levels: Base, Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71 and ZR2. All trim lines have a great 7-inch touchscreen infotainment center coming with 2 USB ports, 6 interior speakers, Apple CarPlays and Android Auto. You can also upgrade to navigation and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi.
The entry level Colorado is known simply as the “base” and comes with some great features in of itself. It comes only in the extended cab version with the standard 2.5-liter inline 4 cylinder engine which gets you a respectable 200 horsepower and 191 lb.-ft. of torque, rear-wheel drive, a six-speed manual transmission, 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, vinyl upholstery and floor covering, and power windows.
The next step up would be the trim level called the ‘Work Truck” which simply by its name, you know is here to get the job done. This trim level can be had in either the extended cab or the crew cab. With the Work Truck you also get cloth upholstery and very nice carpeting. Additional tech items and optional engine upgrades are available. Things to mention here are the remote keyless entry, cruise control, the EZ Lift tailgate system, a remote locking tailgate, OnStar telematics and the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity. Rugged design combined with helpful technology can only be a positive, especially on the work site. Not a fan of the manual transmission? Would you like an automatic? Well, the good news is that from the Work Truck all of the way to the top, there is a six-speed automatic transmission available. This transmission can pair with the four-cylinder or one of the other two engine options which are: a powerful 3.6-liter V6 (308 hp and 275 lb.-ft) or a 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel that gets 181 hp and 369 lb.-ft. Torque. The former getting an 8 speed automatic and the latter the 6 speed option.
Going further up the line, the LT takes all of the previous items and goes further with 17-inch alloy wheels, a steering wheel that’s wrapped in leather and has tilt-and-telescoping technology, satellite radio, more USB ports and more. Options include heated front seats, automatic interior climate control, safety features like collision warning and lane departure, as well as beautiful upgrades for both the navigation and audio if you so choose.
The Z71 trim line remains a fixture and goes more in the off-road direction to include all-terrain tires as compared to the all-season ones on the other levels. Suspension also comes more tuned for off-road adventures along with a locking rear differential, hill descent control, and more rugged upholstery for your travels.
The top of the line ZR2 is a real time off-roader which takes the off-road and adventurous theme to another level. It’s got the raised suspension complemented by special dampers, larger tires built for tackling rough terrain, flares on the fenders, different front and rear bumpers and an optional bed liner that, if chosen, you can spray in to protect it. An electronically locking rear differential as well as a diesel option are available but the regular V6 is the one that comes standard. The tires are Goodyear brand and measure 21-inches long which help with the extra wide stance the ZR2 has.
Exterior
The 2020 Chevy Colorado exterior has a look that is both attractive and practical. The bells and whistles aren’t too much and does a great job walking the line between luxury, ruggedness, and dependability. It says “I’m a work truck but I also have detailing and style which elevates me above many other work horses in the same segment”. With the 2020 Chevy Colorado, you get exterior features like squared-off wheel wells, detailed grooves along the body, and a wide grille that’s cut through with a silver bar and the bold Chevy logo. Customizing options are plentiful for the 2020 Colorado models. The Colorado has a couple of different cab models including extended and crew with either a 5’-1” or 6’-2” truck bed. The larger bed is standard on the extended cab and optional on the crew-cab. From the five different trim levels you have choices that can change the exterior look, including different color accents, running boards, and body trim.
Interior
The interior of the 2020 Colorado is spacious and the ride is a quiet one. Smart controls built into a wide dashboard are really impressive especially when combined with the soft touch surfaces and high quality materials that the cabin has been crafted with. Comparing the Colorado’s interior to other pickup trucks in the same class is a quick one. There really is no comparison in any comparable pickup. The Colorado does many things very well and the cabin is close to the top of that list. It is still designed with utility in mind using materials that have a great sheen invoking a high quality feel. The center controls take lots of their command from the large infotainment display screen which is surrounded by air vents and placed on top of the climate control. This layout is great because it helps embrace technology while not getting too far away from a classic setup. The layout makes it easy to access all the controls you’ll need. Seating is comfortable, and the upholstery is designed to resist stains and other damage. You’ll enjoy a nice blend of utility and comfort inside the all-new Colorado.
Technology
The 2020 Colorado receives a really great tire fill alert system that honks the horn when the rubber is filled to optimal pressure. You can also get an option where you remote lock the tailgate on the Work Truck and it comes standard on the higher trim levels. An upgraded touchscreen infotainment system is also a new option. Standard equipment is focused on providing ease of mind for families. All models include a rearview camera, modern infotainment system, and adjustable seating. The Colorado also has safety in mind helping you feel comfortable both on the road and off it. Of course the standards include: anti-lock brakes, an engine immobilizer, stability and traction control, tire pressure monitoring, along with many airbags. Other mainstays are a post-collision safety system, daytime running lights, dusk sensing headlights, auto delay off headlights, and front headrests. Automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams are available as upgrades on higher trim levels. Moving up the trim levels provides even more safety features like rear door child safety locks, a rear center three-point belt, and rear adjustable headrests. With the right configuration, you can get all the safety features you want. You’ll feel comfortable, and you’ll feel good about driving around your family in the all-new Colorado.
Technology packages are abound. They include:
OnStar System: Provides emergency crash notification, stolen-vehicle notification, and remote locking and unlocking. Standard on the LT and above.
Safety Package: Includes forward collision and lane departure warning systems. Available on the LT and Z71 models only.
Teen Driver Mode: Lets you have custom key settings for secondary drivers and can provide in-vehicle reports.
Handling and Performance
Base Colorados come standard with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder , as is rear-wheel-drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, but most Colorados leave the factory with a 3.6-liter V-6 and 8-speed automatic as well as four-wheel-drive. At 308 hp and 275 lb-ft, it’s no surprise this engine is so popular for everyday use, as it pushes towing capacity to 7,000 pounds and drops highway passing times significantly.
The 2.8-liter diesel that we had previously mentioned is the only diesel in its class aside for one other. It snags 369 lb.-ft. of torque and a 6-speed automatic. Returning 10 percent more towing ability and even better fuel economy, this is a great way to go.
On and off the road, the 2020 Chevy Colorado has handling that is second to none. The ZR2 truly is one of the best trail riders ever. All of the specs we’ve mentioned like the suspension, unique dampers, locking differentials, the Goodyear tires etc. all come together for a smooth ride and a “go anywhere” state of mind. If you are an occasional partaker in off road activities, the Z71 isn’t too shabby either and comes equipped with mid-range off road upgrades.
