CHEVY TRAVERSE TRIM COMPARISON

Choosing a new vehicle can be daunting in and of itself. New or used? Fuel efficient or fun to drive? Budget oriented or spare no details or expense?

If deciding on a make and model didn’t pose enough challenges, that decision was only the first of many more as today’s vehicles tend to include a vast scope of trim levels. Some of these levels include hardly noticeable features like extra stitching or advanced anti-lock brakes. But other levels are more significant, including heated and cooled seats and advanced safety options.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse is one such vehicle that includes seven levels of trim packages—L, LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country. We have taken the liberty of detailing and summarizing the various trim levels here. Of important note, these trim levels are fitted with a 3.6-Liter V6 engine complemented by Chevy’s newly designed nine-speed automatic transmission.

The sport-style RS trim, however, is equipped a with a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine. Most trims are available in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations. All models include rear defrost, power doors and windows, optional running boards, tire pressure monitoring system, optional wheel locks and other features that make this vehicle a high quality mid-size SUV.

L Trim Level

Even the base model of the 2018 traverse comes with many accessories such as LED running xenon headlights, heated mirrors, 18-inch wheels, and engine stop-start. The cab of this trim level is made with cloth upholstery, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and seating for eight. Safety and technology features include a rearview camera, OnStar communications, Chevy’s Teen Driver system, and a 7-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Because this is a build-to-order trim, the Traverse L level is not likely to be found on a dealer lot.

LS Trim Level

This is the most common trim level for the 2018 traverse. In addition to the basic equipment, the LS includes options such as second-row tablet mounts with USB charging ports and a cargo management package.

LT Cloth Trim Level

This mid-grade level swaps a bench for second-row captain’s chairs. This reduces seating capacity but improves accessibility and comfort. Additional features included in this trim level include roof rails, mirror-integrated turn signals, and a power-adjustable driver seat. This trim level includes two additional packages:

  • The Convenience and Driver Confidence Package: a power liftgate, remote engine start, an upgraded 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a color driver information display, and heated front seats. Additional safety features in this package and trim level include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors.
  • The Trailering Package: adds a trailer hitch and heavy-duty cooling system to the vehicle.

LT Leather Trim Level

This trim level includes the Convenience and Driver Confidence Package and is also where the finer luxury upgrades begin. A panoramic sunroof is available as a stand-alone upgrade. However multiple features come with this trim level including leather upholstery, a 120-volt power outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a built-In rearview camera display, a top-down parking camera system, and a power-adjustable passenger seat. Technology enhancements available in this trim level include a 10-speaker Bose sound system and navigation functionality to the MyLink system.

RS Trim Level

This is the only trim level that is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Additionally, this vehicle is only available in front-wheel drive. The accessories and equipment in the RS are comparable to the LT leather. However, this sportier trim level displays unique styling cues and accents that aren’t found in any of the other 2018 Traverse trim levels.

Premier Trim Level

Near the top of its range, this trim level adds LED headlights, auto-dimming side mirrors, hands-free liftgate operation, and a power-adjustable steering column. This trim level seems designed with the comfort of the driver in mind as it includes ventilated front seats, heated seats and driver-seat memory settings. But back seat passengers will also enjoy the heated seats that are available with this trim level. In addition to the above features, there are additional packages available at this trim level.

  • Driver Confidence II Package: Available safety features added in this package include the forward collision alert equipped with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic braking and lane departure warning and intervention systems.
  • Redline Edition Package: Designed for drivers who are particularly interested in the vehicle’s appearance, purchase of this package includes the removal of the chrome trim and the addition of a panoramic sunroof.
  • Drivers will also be pleased to learn that adding an all-wheel drive system to this trim level will also include an upgrade to the Driver Confidence II and Trailering Packages.

High Country Trim Level

If you are going to splurge on a new vehicle, why not go all out and get all of the conveniences that are available? In addition to all of the features of the Premier Trim Level, you can also enjoy a special all-wheel-drive system with an auto-locking rear differential, automatic high beams, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, a power-folding third-row seat, and unique interior leather upholstery. This model is only available in all-wheel drive.

In short, the various trim types can be grouped into three general categories. The L and LS Trim Levels are basic models that provide comfortable and reliable transportation without many extra amenities. The middle-of-the road trim levels include the LT Cloth, LT leather and the RS trim levels.

They include some accessories that enhance the comfort and safety level of the vehicle. Finally, the Premier and High Country Trim levels are considered the top-of-the line for the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse and include all of the “bells and whistles” one might expect to find in a top-of-the-line mid-size SUV.
