Size Difference

The Chevy Equinox is considered a compact SUV, while the Chevy Traverse is considered a midsize SUV. The Equinox is 183 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 65 inches high. The Traverse is 204 inches long, 79 inches wide, and 71 inches tall.

There is also a difference in these vehicles when it comes to cargo capacity. In the Chevy Equinox, you have 29.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, and up to 63.5 cubic feet of cargo space total with the seats folded down. In the Traverse, you have 23 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 57.8 cubic feet with the third-row folded down, and up to 98.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third rows of seats folded down.

Performance and Fuel Economy

In the Chevy Equinox, you have three different engine options. The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that gives you 170-horsepower. The next engine is a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that gives you 252-horsepower. Your final engine option is a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine that offers only 137-horsepower, but it gives you excellent fuel economy.

When it comes to efficiency, the Equinox offers you up to 28 city and 39 highway miles to the gallon with its turbo diesel engine. The other two engines range from 22-26 city and 29-32 highway miles per gallon.

The 2019 Chevy Traverse has two engine options. The base engine is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that gives you 310-horsepower. The other engine option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 255-horsepower.

The Traverse gives you 18 city and 27 highway miles per gallon with its V6 engine and 20 city and 26 highway miles per gallon with its turbo-four engine.

Both of these vehicles can give you a great performance. However, the Traverse gives you the slightly more powerful performance, and the Equinox gives you the more fuel efficient one. You can choose what is most important to you.

Interior and Technology

Probably the biggest difference between the Chevy Equinox and the Chevy Traverse is the size and the seating. The Traverse is larger, so it offers you the possibility of more passenger capacity. The Equinox has seating for five, while the Traverse can seat up to eight people depending on whether you choose a second-row bench seat or captain’s chairs.

However, when it comes to technology, these vehicles are very similar. They both offer you some impressive standard technology features including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, an infotainment system, the Chevy Teen Driver system, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, and USB ports. They also both offer you some great available safety features like forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, front pedestrian braking, and more.

Both the Chevy Traverse and Equinox are great SUV options. They both offer you some impressive standard technology as well as the great SUV versatility that you are looking for. The biggest difference
between these vehicles is probably their size, so if you are looking for a slightly bigger SUV, the Traverse is probably the option for you. If you are looking for a more compact SUV, the Equinox is an amazing option. However, you really can’t go wrong with either of these SUVs from Chevy.
